Searching For Big Fat Black Bears at Cades Cove
Story Description:
Typically, there’s always one main mission at Cades Cove for us, and probably for everyone: spotting wild black bears.
Often described as a slice of heaven in the Great Smokies, Cades Cove never disappoints, no matter your goal here.
It’s an astonishing landscape for anyone hoping to spot not just the average black bear, but something much more remarkable. Our focus, once again, was clear: to hopefully catch a glimpse of the Big Fat Black Bears of Cades Cove.
Are they really here? Do those truly massive bears actually roam the sloping valleys and panoramic fields of this peaceful mountain cove?

With every visit, our search continues, an endless quest for bears of extraordinary size and near-mythic presence. On this trip, it became our mission of the afternoon and early evening to find one, or maybe even two, for a clear view if luck would allow it.
With boldness, and as much confidence and hope as we could muster, we set out once more for Cades Cove, returning after a long drought from our usual visits.
