Clingmans Dome | The Top of the Smokies | Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Story Description:

Clingmans Dome stands as the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, rising 6,643 feet above sea level. This towering peak, often wrapped in mist or kissed by blue skies, offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the entire Appalachian range. The famous Appalachian Trail even cuts directly across Clingmans Dome, making it a bucket-list destination for hikers and nature lovers alike.

With clear mountain air and sweeping vistas stretching for miles, our goal today is to reach the iconic observation tower at the summit, a spot that feels like standing on the very roof of the Smokies.

We will also stop at the Appalachian Trail crossing point located near the top, a reminder of the thousands of hikers who pass through here each year on their journey from Georgia to Maine.
