More Story Details:

I wanted to see every side of this remarkable building up close. The structure that stands today has been carefully restored over the years, yet it still holds the strength and spirit of the original, having stood through centuries of change. Its weathered brick walls and classic Colonial design seem to tell stories of the many trials, gatherings, and important decisions that once took place here.

My plan was to first walk around the exterior, taking in the symmetry and details of its architecture, before heading inside to learn about the court cases and government affairs that unfolded within these walls. I was also hoping to see the courtroom layout, the judge’s bench, and any of the interior rooms open to the public.

From civil disputes and local ordinances to announcements that shaped the early community, this courthouse served as the heart of civic life in eighteenth-century Williamsburg.

Venture along with me as I set out to discover this important site in more detail and uncover the stories that make the Courthouse of Colonial Williamsburg such a vital piece of American history.
