Learning how all of this came to be, as it stands today, is an important part of truly appreciating and understanding the remains of the historic cabins and the mountain folk who once called this place home. It’s a remarkable piece of history that helped set the early foundation for tourism in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Only a few miles from downtown Gatlinburg and not far from Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley, or Townsend, Elkmont sits close to many of the central vacation spots in eastern Tennessee. We’re excited to share its history with you and take you along on our exploration through this abandoned ghost town that was partly preserved but later, in large part, demolished by the National Park Service.
A ghost town, forgotten cottages, the stone remains of mountain cabins, a mystical troll bridge, and plenty more are in store on this adventure.
